Smyrna Church History

Smyrna Church was organized at the Bentley schoolhouse April 16, 1870 with a presbytery composed of Elders T.N. Frazee, Thomas Jones, and William J. Preston. In June of that year Elder Jones was elected to serve as pastor. Since that time, there have been six pastors (not including our current co-pastors.) They were Elders B.R. Warren, L.E. Frazee, Claude Webb, J.O Symmonds, Orvel B. Prior, and Vernon R. Hopkins.

The current church building was built in 1873 and remodeled in 1896, 1925, 1946, and 1971. In 1965, the church began work on the current dining hall which was expanded in 1978.
